Captain Doc Hawley

guest_doc-hawleyCaptain Clarke “Doc” Hawley, a river veteran of sixty years, began his career as calliope player and popcorn-popper on board the steamer Avalon and went on to serve as Mate, Pilot and Captain of Delta Queen, Belle of Louisville, President, Natchez, and American Queen – all paddle wheel steamboats. He is thought to have seen more of the inland rivers than any living steamboatman, having worked on ten rivers in seventeen states.

Doc appears on the October 2014 episode of The Goodnight Show!

This was just before the Great Steamboat Race of 2008 in Louisville KY, the calliope duel between the Delta Queen and the Belle of Louisville with Capt. “Doc” Hawley playing “Ragtime Cowboy Joe” and “I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover” on the Delta Queen.
